(referencing LinkedIn poll “What are the BIGGEST CHALLENGES facing Austin? Your opinions and ideas matter!”)

First off, folks, thank you for taking the time to show that you truly care about our city and its future.  In preparation to a hopeful interview for the City of Austin Chief Innovation Officer position, I set out to investigate what fellow residents are concerned about; but more importantly, I wanted to gather your ideas for innovative solutions to share in my presentation.  I’ve lived in Austin two separate times, started several businesses, offered employment, devoted time to local charities, voted, recycled and oriented myself with the movers-and-shakers who are tirelessly helping to create positive economic, technological, cultural and social change in this growing city. With my capabilities, connections, street-smarts, and innate understanding of how to connect a message with an audience, I figured I could earn an interview.

Deciding to GO BIG or GO HOME, I reached out to local thought leaders who earnestly gave me their endorsements; I even had meetings with three City of Austin department leaders to learn more, ask questions, present ideas and show my passion for this role.  In a few short weeks, I designed a whole new platform for our city government’s Innovation Office to inform, inspire and innovate Austin into action.  Well, suffice it to say, I never got the interview.  Nope.  Last Friday at 5:09pm, I received a generic email and regurgitated note from the (presumable overpaid and completely out-of-touch-with-Austin) out-of-state recruiting firm (CPS HR Consulting http://www.cpshr.us) who said I’ve been passed over, as I was not the most qualified.

The irony here, folks, is two-fold:   First, in my talks with the actual City department leaders, they mentioned that this new position is still a bit vague in description, responsibilities, and direction, as is the entire Innovation Office only recently established. Second, where’s the INNOVATION in hiring a Sacramento recruiter to find the golden nugget needed to really spearhead this totally new office and leadership role?  Really, how can someone in a cube 1000 miles away get the gist of the most unique applicants by simply scanning a resume?  Argh.  (Many of you out there still looking for work fully understand the pain and assbackwardness that technology can cause when trying to match human beings to a growing entity with a unique culture, mission, vision, pulse, etc.)  Alas, I can understand that there is a system to vetting out candidates, and I am not a sore loser…just wanted a chance to express my thoughts and get a shot at a chat.

I’d like to remind the anyone interested, that the truest, simplest definition of the word INNOVATION is “significant, positive change”.  Period.

Net-net:  I believe the Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Austin needs to be an entrepreneur, visionary,  spokesperson, liaison, researcher, interviewer, connector, marketeer, producer, project manager, coach, creative director, motivator, and passionate, active citizen who gives a damn about people.  Frankly, yet humbly speaking, I believe that describes me, and so do a whole bunch of wonderful, brilliant folks who have supported me for over a decade.  And I believe the City decision-makers may have let one of the most qualified candidates slip away.

All that said, the results from the poll I offered up garnered almost 50 responses and focused on these major issue, listed in order of most “votes”.  I will have a write-up summary of people’s ideas for solutions posted soon.

Traffic/Transportation:  Cap Metro, cabs, bike lanes, lack of carpools, money wasted on toll roads, and too many more to list…

City Government: City Manager led vs. Mayor led, Unguided system, Debt, Permit overload, Out-of-touch & overpaid City Council

Housing:  Affordability, Property taxes

Water:  Drought, Waste

Infrastructure:  Over-marketing on popularity lists, Population explosion, Quality job availability

Culture:  Dilution of “weirdness”… turning into another Dallas, Inter-generational, inter-racial, inter-faith community, Over-focus on technology

Homelessness:  Lack of resources & housing, Need for education, job integration system

Education:  Healthcare, Schools

Crime

Thank you again so very much for showing your spirit and sharing your thoughts.  If you have any interest in helping me simply get a darn interview with the City of Austin for the Chief Innovation Officer position, please share a note, post or tweet #AustinNeedsKimberlieDykeman

Cheers to the possibilities!

As long as people keep watching TV and the web to learn before they buy…Kimberlie Dykeman will be a very busy on-camera personality!  It began with commercials, then infomercials, and now Kimberlie is officially graduating to live TV shopping networks.  She is both excited and honored to have been chosen as a Spokesperson for Dermelect, a New York based cosmeceutical company that is making a name for itself with an exceptional skincare line that doesn’t follow the trends.  Founded in 2006 by Amos Lavian, Dermelect has making waves in the media, tapping everything from social media to national conferences to educate the public and earn their loyalty through fantastic results they can see in the mirror.  Now prepared to enter the arena of live shopping networks, Dermelect inked Kimberlie as a spokesperson for the coming year, to represent the company on ShopNBC live shows and in the press.

Dermelect is not a “me too” kind of skincare line, nor do they claim to match the results of Botox, needles or invasive procedures.  They give clients an honest approach to skincare and offer cutting-edge, targeted solutions for key areas of concern.  Unlike many other skincare products, Dermelect is the first cosmeceutical line jointly formulated by medical professionals including a facial plastic surgeon, dermatologists, estheticians, celebrity skin care specialists, a bridal skin care specialist, a top hand model and even a top asthma specialist.   Research plus amazing ingredients have yielded products that are effective, if not multifunctional in their treatment.  And all products are not only effective and luxurious, but also universal –offering obtainable results for any kind of skin category.  Net-net: Dermelect is an innovative skincare line that simplifies one’s beauty cabinet with affordable, multi-tasking, targeted products.

“I’m jazzed to be representing a company like Dermelect, who puts its customers’ greatest concerns on the top of its priority list.  Of course, I’m equally enthused to enter the world of live TV, especially on ShopNBC, an industry leader.  I think folks who tune in will easily relate to me, seeing that I am not an 18-year old model who has yet to fear the mirror in the morning!  Working with Dermelect and ShopNBC offers me another great opportunity to extend my reach of influencing the public to create positive changes in their own lives.”  ~KD

From the minute she landed in New York, Kimberlie Dykeman took in fabulous new experiences every chance she could!  It began with a trip to the General Motors Building to join the crowds at a taping of CBS’s The Early Show…  Dykeman not only shook hands of the fabulously friendly anchors, she also garnered some serious camera-time for the cover of her book, Pure Soapbox, and  handed off a copy to the producer.  Just in case they needed a great guest to motivate their viewers in the New Year!

Dykeman stayed at the swanky SoHo Grande Hotel, dined at Lure and  Megu and took in the amazing contemporary West-Side Story-esque musical, In the Heights, at the Richard Rogers Theater.    A junket into Greenwich Village was distracted by the annual SantaCon celebration, where Dykeman asked not ONE but TWO Santas for a few Christmas gifts!   IMG_0283  IMG_0278

And a fabulous meeting with a top executive at the Discovery Network inched the TV Host and producer even closer to that ONE HUGE WISH LIST ITEM …of a talk show on the newly launching Oprah Winfrey Network!  After all Discovery and OWN are officially partners for life, now; and it’s about time Kimberlie Dykeman and the SOAPBOX brand hit the Big Time to motivate the masses!

The evening of Andy Roddick’s 4th Annual Fundraiser Gala was indeed wonderfully festive, fun, and filled with folks jazzed to drop some serious cash on auction items, for the benefit of four Austin-based children charities.  Kimberlie Dykeman was honored with the opportunity to host the only interview of Sir Elton John before he hit the performance stage to prove, yet again, that there is only one ROCKET MAN!

Side-by-side on the red carpet with other Austin media, Dykeman also had camera conversation with the host himself, Andy Roddick; his wife Brooklyn Decker, crooner John Legend, and Colorado Rockies’ Huston Street.

Monday brings yet another star-studded event to Austin, and Austin-based TV Host and Producer Kimberlie Dykeman is right in the middle of it all!  N.Y.’s MagicBullet Media and Full Picture, the PR and production company famous for the CW’s Project Runway, have engaged Dykeman as producer for the much-anticipated Andy Roddick Foundation 4th Annual Fundraising Gala, benefitting children’s charities in Texas.  Dykeman will be coordinating a production crew (from AMS Pictures) to capture interviews of the evening’s headlining celebrities, including the hosts, Andy Roddick and his wife Brooklyn Decker, Sir Elton John, John Legend and the Dave Matthews Band.

Red carpet coverage will include catching up with Colorado Rockies’ pitcher Huston Street and University of Texas Coach Mack Brown, as well as footage of Elton John’s private performance.  Held at the Hilton Austin, the event brings together celebrities, athletes and philanthropists for an evening of dinner, dancing, and giving, with a live auction.  All proceeds from the evening will go to benefit local children’s organizations including: KIPP Austin College Prep, The Settlement Home for Children, Austin Partners in Education, and Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.

KD-JRcropped smaller“Being hand-selected for my expertise in creating memorable moments for media is always exciting,” said Dykeman.  “But helping world-renowned athletes and celebrities have an even greater impact in the lives of countless more children in need is an absolute honor!”  Dykeman herself supports LIVESTRONG™ and several other charities, donating her time and proceeds from her SOAPBOX® brand of products, including her book “PURE SOAPBOX, the first in a motivational series.

KDykemanGarageA select few of entertainment’s well-respected creators and producers have called upon Kimberlie Dykeman to be the host for the pilot episode of a rather touching reality series about couples and families staying together and truly “connected” for the long-haul.  After an exhausting audition process in search for a Florida-based host, Executive Producer Warren Rogan got on the phone to Dykeman and offered her the part, with first choice seating as the show’s established host when the series gets placed on a network. Creative team also includes creator David L. Berman and Kelly F. Rummler.
